Taiwanese footwear manufacturer to begin operations at Tamil Nadu, India, by ’26
Taiwanese footwear manufacturer Hong Fu Industrial Group has announced plans to commence operations at its new facility in Panapakkam, Tamil Nadu, by early January 2026. The groundbreaking ceremony for the ₹1,500-crore (~$176.65 million) manufacturing unit was presided over by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.
The Grand Atlantia unit is projected to generate employment for approximately 25,000 individuals, with 85% of the workforce expected to be women. This initiative aligns with the state’s objective to become the footwear capital of India, contributing to the creation of 86,150 jobs across districts such as Perambalur, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur, and Ranipet.
Hong Fu, the world’s second-largest manufacturer of non-leather athletic footwear, supplies to prominent brands including Nike, Adidas, Puma, Reebok, Under Armour, and Converse. The company’s expansion into India underscores the nation’s growing significance as a manufacturing hub and highlights the Tamil Nadu government’s efforts to attract foreign investment and promote job creation in the state.
This development is part of a broader trend of Taiwanese companies shifting their supply chains to India, driven by factors such as rising global trade tensions and India’s strengthening economic relations with Taiwan.
