Scheme for Technical Textiles and Apparel in Tamil Nadu
Tamil Nadu has introduced several initiatives to bolster its technical textiles and apparel sectors, aiming to enhance production capabilities, foster innovation, and attract investment.
Special Scheme for Technical Textiles and MMF Yarn from Recycled Materials:
The state government has launched a special scheme to provide benefits and subsidies for the production of man-made fibre (MMF) yarn and MMF fabric derived from recycled materials. This initiative aligns with the Tamil Nadu Industrial Policy 2021, offering a back-ended capital subsidy of ₹1 crore for sub-large projects in ‘A’ and ‘B’ category districts. Additionally, a 5% interest subsidy is available for eligible projects.
Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP):
Under the Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks, the Union Government has sanctioned seven textile parks in Tamil Nadu. Four of these parks have been completed and are operational:
- Hi-Tech Weaving Park, Palladam, Tiruppur
- Integrated Textile Park, Karur
- Madurai Integrated Textile Park, Vadipatti
- Hi-Tech Weaving Park, Kumarapalayam, Namakkal
The remaining three parks are under development:
- GILT Integrated Textile Park, Chengappalli, Tiruppur
- SIMA Textile Processing Park, Cuddalore
- Pallavada Technical Textile Park, Erode
These parks aim to provide state-of-the-art infrastructure, promote an integrated textile value chain, and attract private investment.
National Technical Textile Mission:
The Union Government has launched the National Technical Textile Mission with a budget of ₹1,400 crore to drive research and development, marketing, export promotion, and education in technical textiles. Union Minister for Textiles, Giriraj Singh, has expressed support for establishing a technical textile hub in Tamil Nadu, recognizing the state’s potential in this sector.
Integrated Textile Policy 2019:
Tamil Nadu’s Integrated Textile Policy 2019 focuses on promoting sustainable and innovative practices within the textile industry. The policy includes a Focus Product Scheme (FPS) for technical textiles to incentivize the export of products with high export intensity or employment potential.
These initiatives collectively aim to position Tamil Nadu as a leading hub for technical textiles and apparel manufacturing, fostering economic growth and creating employment opportunities in the sector.
