In Tamil Nadu, JR One Footwear plans to establish two additional factories

JR One Footwear Pvt. Ltd., a joint venture between Phoenix Kothari Footwear Ltd. and Taiwan’s ShoeTown Group, is set to expand its operations in Tamil Nadu by establishing two additional manufacturing facilities and leather component clusters. This strategic move aims to introduce two new international footwear brands to the Indian market.

The company has already invested approximately ₹5,000 crore in a manufacturing unit located in Perambalur, about 250 km south of Chennai. This facility, dedicated to producing ‘Crocs’ footwear, spans 50 acres and has generated around 1,700 direct and indirect jobs in the region.

The forthcoming factories are planned for two yet-to-be-disclosed districts in Tamil Nadu, with operations expected to commence next year. These facilities will focus on producing new international footwear brands, further solidifying Tamil Nadu’s position as a significant hub in the global footwear manufacturing industry.

A key aspect of this expansion is the development of leather component clusters, which play a crucial role in the manufacturing process. Currently, many components are imported from countries like China and Vietnam. By establishing these clusters locally, JR One Footwear aims to reduce dependency on imports, fostering self-reliance and potentially revolutionizing job creation within the state’s leather industry.

This expansion reflects the company’s commitment to leveraging Tamil Nadu’s favorable business environment and skilled workforce, contributing to the state’s economic growth and employment opportunities. The collaboration between Phoenix Kothari Footwear Ltd. and ShoeTown Group underscores a shared vision for growth and value creation in the region.
